HOW DID THE IDEA FOR THIS BOOK COME ABOUT?

This book is the result of our experiences during six years of organizing and running our home-based camp. We have seen the camp grow, evolve, and meet the needs of different families and various ages. The rewards have far exceeded our expectations. The children love it, and the parents have at least as much fun as the children.

Many times when we've described our camp to parents, their reaction is: "You mean you can do that?" Most people have never considered the possibility of organizing their own camp, and find the idea strange and overwhelming. "What's involved? How would we get started? Could I really do that?" We are hoping that this book will help more people find out about this alternative for summer entertainment and education, and give them a way to get started. We've learned through experience what works and what doesn't, and offer these lessons as your starting point.
